Sugar Maple Tree
Sugar Maple Tree
Acer Saccharum is a deciduous, North American native tree with a beautiful, well-shaped, round crown and an impressive height. It will grow well in the full or partial sun in USDA plant hardiness zones 3 through 8.
The sugar maple tree is closely related to the wildly popular silver maple tree. Many gardeners covet the sweet sap, a delicious maple syrup.
Even those who don't wish to tap in and harvest the sap adore the sugar maple tree for its fantastic size. Its medium-to-tall stature means the species creates sufficient shade even on the hottest summer days.
Finally, the sugar maple tree is super easy to take care of, requiring little more than manual watering if you don't get rainfall in the first several weeks after you plant it.
The species is drought-tolerant, frost-tolerant, heat-tolerant, pest-resistant, not prone to disease, and will de-compact your soil. It can even tolerate high-moisture content like mud or clay, provided it drains well between rain showers.
The Sugar Maple Tree Is Among the Prettiest You Will Ever See
The sugar maple tree falls in the medium-to-tall range,
achieving a maximum height of 80', with most staying just under 70' tall. It will also have a broad, gently rounded, symmetrically shaped crown that stretches as much as 40' across.
The leaves of this glorious tree run in an opposing pattern along the stems, grow to approximately three inches long, and have distinctive lobes. They are glossy and bright green during the early season and turn to rust, red, or orange when fall arrives.
