Maidenhair Fern

Maidenhair Fern
Maidenhair Fern
Adiantum Pedatum is a hardy perennial that makes an impressive appearance in a shade
garden or wooded natural area. It loves filtered sunshine, about six hours per day, and is best adapted to USDA plant hardiness zones 3 to 8.
Maidenhair fern is a breathtaking species native to two continents: North America in the United States and Canada, and Asia, in the Himalayan region.
The easy-growing and low-care demands of this graceful fern make it coveted for shade
gardens, shaded borders, rock gardens, or on the shade slopes of ponds. They're also excellent for planting on a sloped hill with low sunshine, as they are much easier to grow there than grass.
Maidenhair Ferns Look Delicate But Do Not Let That Fool You
The appearance of maidenhair ferns can trick you. They have multiple petite, fan-shaped
leaflets that comprise a single frond, giving the appearance of hair. Leaflets have a bright spring green color with a splash of color from contrasting, darker veins.
The look is delicate. But these ferns are hardy. They're disease-resistant, cold-tolerant, and pest-resistant.
The fronds can reach 16" to 26" tall, and the plant grows into a graceful oval at the base.
Caring for Maidenhair Fern Plants
Maidenhair fern plants have a good nature. They make few care demands, asking for nothing other than a semi-shaded area and fertile soil. They love the occasional addition of hardwood mulch or earthworm castings to give them vibrant growth.
But the most critical care factor is to keep the earth around your plants damp but not overly wet.
If you live in a rainy climate or high-humidity area, you will be all set. Those who reside in a drier location should plan to water their ferns deeply every few days during the summertime.
They require no other direct care.
