Forsythia Shrub

Forsythia Shrub
Forsythia Shrub
Forsythia x Intermedia is a fast-growth, low-care demand, deciduous shrub that brightens the early spring with bright and cheerful yellow blossoms. It will thrive in USDA plant hardiness zones 3 to 8 and have a spot in the full sunshine.
Forsythia is an Asian native species. However, it adjusted well to the American climate and is now standard across gardens in our nation. It is a favorite plant in the middle-south, midwest, and southeast.
This species is extremely easy to care for and does not need continuous attention or fertilizing; once or twice per year suits it fine. If you are an organic gardener, this species will welcome a nice handful of peat moss or leaf litter once in a while. Once fully grown, the forsythia is drought-resistant, disease-resistant, and heat-tolerant.
The Golden Bells (Forsythia Flowers) Are Among Spring's Earliest Bloomers
Some gardeners refer to his shrub by the nicknamegolden bells, paying tribute to the beautiful cheery blooms. Each flower is tiny--under 1"--and has four petals that form a bell shape. Despite the small size, they are prolific, occurring the entire stem length. It creates an enormous visual impact for a few weeks in the spring.
The plant's stems have a slight bend, forming a gentle arch shape as they reach an average 7' or a maximum 10' height. If you want to keep this fast-growing (which adds about 24” per growing season) shrub shorter, that's easy--it is highly tolerant of pruning.
The leaves are about 4" long, dark green, and ovate with slightly serrated edges.
