Sphagnum Peat Moss - 5 Square Feet

Sphagnum Peat Moss - 5 Square Feet
Peat Moss
Sphagnum Centrale is a type of moss that grows exceptionally well in wetland areas. It is also ideal as a soil amendment and plant-growing medium. It will grow best in full or partial shade in USDA plant hardiness zones 3 to 9.
Peat moss prefers a wet environment to thrive. It is a native of bogs and cool marshlands. In those native locations, it forms dense colonies. Sphagnum Centrale is a lovely ground cover plant for continuously wet areas.
Peat Moss Is a Useful and Lovely Plant
As new peat moss grows, the old plants die off and drop below, releasing their moisture and nutrients back into the bog. This old growth becomes the peat moss collected and used for enriching the garden. When ready for harvesting and use in the garden, the color of the decomposed plant is dark brown, and it has a somewhat crumbled texture when you pinch it with your fingers.
Growing this moss is an excellent ground cover plant to help resolve the issue of having a low-lying, high-moisture, shaded area. You will improve the soil structure and protect against water erosion. You will also better manage standing water issues, as the Spaghnum Centrale will soak up the puddles efficiently.
The plant's cellular structure has a sponge-like texture, and its structure is a barrel shape.
These factors give it powerful water-wicking and retention properties.
Sphagnum Moss is typically a beautiful, full light green and forms dense clumps or mats as it spreads across the ground. The individual plants are small and do not have stems or leaves but instead have thin, delicate branches.
