Wintergreen Boxwood
Wintergreen Boxwood
Buxus Wintergreen is a vibrant, woody, evergreen shrub that will flourish in USDA plant hardiness zones 5 to 9 in a sun-and-shade mix.
Left to its own devices, it will mature into a pyramid shape, wide at the bottom and with a slightly rounded, narrowing top. While it has a lovely, organic shape, it also accepts heavy shaping. It's perfect for gardeners who love to practice topiary, the time-honored craft of creating living sculptures out of plant matter.
The boxwood is an ancient shrub species originating in Asia, including China, Korea, and Japan. It spread to Europe along trade routes and arrived in North America with some of the earliest settlers. Because of its long history here, it suits the American climate well. Today, it is widespread and beloved by gardeners across the country.
It is a rabbit-resistant, deer-resistant, and disease-resistant species that can only live in warm zones.
Wintergreen Boxwood Is a Stunning Evergreen Shrub
Buxus Wintergreen is a gorgeous shrub with dense, bright green, oval-shaped leaves, dense branches, and small stature. It stays under a five-foot maximum height at maturity but usually averages about four feet.
Wintergreen boxwood is lovely planted by itself--it is attractive enough all alone. However, most gardeners utilize them for evergreen color in the middle of a garden border or to create a living privacy screen.
Still, others use this boxwood species for color around their homes' foundations. Cutting it back below the windows without causing any damage is almost effortless because it tolerates pruning so readily.
