Burning Bush
Burning Bush
Euonymus Alatus 'Compactus' bush is a species native to Asia. However, it is well-suited for use in the United States, especially in the moderate climate conditions of USDA plant hardiness zones 4 to 8. It requires little maintenance and grows in a full-sun or partial-sun location with good drainage.
Wholesale Nursery recommends the burning bush to anyone who wants a beautiful garden but has a busy lifestyle. This species is almost carefree after you plant it. It's drought-tolerant, heat-tolerant, and disease-resistant. Once you plant it, the roots strengthen quickly and become very independent. Just fertilize it twice yearly and watch the moisture during the hottest days of the year. It's that easy, a shrub.
Burning Bush Adds Color and Style to Your Landscape
Some know the burning bush as a tall species. However, at Wholesale Nursery, we cultivate the more petite 'Compactus,' a variety that will be the perfect ornamental. It will stay under 10' high and generally around 8' on average. It grows in an oval pattern and becomes broader than its height.
The plant takes its name from its leaves, which change from a lovely shade of green to fiery red around August each season. But the burning bush is a season-long beautiful plant.
Although unsuitable for human consumption, your feathered friends will enjoy the feast well into the autumn. Its early-season leaf colors will deepen and grow more vibrant throughout summer until they reach their vibrant red. They later fade to purple or mauve in the fall. The cool autumn weather also brings tiny little berries, unfit for humans to eat, but the birds, squirrels, and other late-season garden visitors will thank you for them.
