Kwanzan Cherry Trees
The Prunus kanzan is a magnificent, flowering deciduous tree. It requires a full sun location to produce its famous flowers and grows best in USDA plant hardiness zones 5 through 9.
Most Wholesale Nursery customers who invest in this ornamental tree do so for one reason--the abundance of bright pink flowers that welcome the spring. The Kwanzan cherry tree is a native of Japan (and later grew in popularity in Korea and China). It arrived in America over a hundred years ago and adapted quickly to our environment.
Because of its inherent charm, you see it widely used today in American gardens. This species is now prevalent from the mid-Atlantic states to the deep south and west across the midwestern prairies. It prefers warm and humid summers.
Besides its incredible good looks, this species is drought-tolerant, pest-tolerant, and disease-resistant.
The Kwanzan Cherry Tree Is Striking and Perfectly Sized for Any Yard
The tree has a central red-brown trunk that stands upright before it splits into several lovely, curving branches. It reaches approximately twenty feet tall when mature, making it suitable for an ornamental or accent tree or Memorial Tree a living tribute 3-4 as an eye-catching specimen. The crown is well-shaped, rounded, and somewhat open.
Twenty 2-inch double-layered petals comprise each flower for an enormously showy appearance. The flowers have twenty double-blooming petals, measuring about an inch to three each. They will bloom for as long as three weeks in the middle of spring, lighting the sky with glorious rosy pink color. The flowers have a lovely fragrance, sweetly floral with a hint of fruitiness.
Small The leaves form alternating patterns on the stems after the blossom petals fade and drop. They are a lovely true green in the summer and orange or bright yellow in the fall.
