If you want to design the most beautiful flowering garden, but you are located in zones 4-9, where the days and nights have limited direct sunshine and are colder than other parts of the country, you are in for a delightful treat. There are a variety of perfect perennials that are colorful, lush, and will flourish and thrive in your Zone 3 garden.

Perennials are plants that don’t die each year like annuals

They have a limited blooming cycle, with some early blooming in spring and others later in the summer. Perennials will pop up through the ground or automatically begin coming alive year after year.

Perennials spread beautifully on top of the ground like Maidenhead ferns. Some perennials have flowers like Shasta Daisies, Purple Coneflower, and Wild Aster. Other perennials fill and complement larger areas throughout the landscape, like Burgundy Glow Privet, Oak Tree, and Sassafras Trees. Others are colorful without blooms and provide depth and dimension to a garden. Red Osier Dogwood is a striking tall spike-like plant that will complement any pretty perennial in any zone. Another plant that will add gorgeous dimension to add to your Garden is Broome Sedge, a beautiful grass-like plant that seems to dance in the sunlight.

Perennials are hardy and thrive in moist soil and partially sunny or shady gardens—designing a garden that features a variety of perennials in each zone. Each perennial is different, so it’s essential to know the plant by researching and understanding how it grows. We have garden experts to help you get the best perennials for your location.

They will grow up to 12" tall and just as wide. They will grow in zones 3 through 9.
