Bald Cypress Tree

Bald Cypress Tree
Bald Cypress
Thiscypress tree, taxodium distichumis a North American native evergreen tree species. It will grow well in the full sunshine in USDA planting zones 4 through 9. This tree tolerates either drought or flooding and doesn't mind the heavy, moist soil of swamps, riverbanks, or ponds.
It will reach a mature height somewhere between fifty and seventy feet. If growing along the water's edge, the species develops knob-like formations called knees. These appear just above the water's surface. This species naturally takes a triangular shape with a broad bottom and a narrow but slightly round top.
Early explorers noted its growth from the low marshlands of eastern Maryland to the lower Mississippi River valley in the forests and mountains across much of the east coast. They quickly realized that the bald cypress tree resisted rotting, thanks to its water-loving nature. So they began growing it for building their homes and making tools, barrels, fences, and railroad ties.
Today, American gardeners grow the bald cypress tree for its ability to thrive in many soils, evergreen color, shapely form, and ease of care. Wholesale Nursery suggests this tree for those who need something to plant in always wet, poorly-drained soil.
