Black Chokeberry Shrub
Black Chokeberry
Aronia Melanocarpa is a deciduous native North American shrub that performs beautifully in USDA plant hardiness zones 3 through 8. It grows well in full sunlight but will also flourish in a mixture of sun and shade.
In nature, this shrub thrives in freshwater swamps, woodlands, and near streams and creeks. Even though it loves moisture, it also needs a well-drained spot and will adjust to dry conditions--it is good-natured and will adapt to many circumstances.
The Shrubs reaches a total height of around 10' and 6' wide. It creates a vase-like shape with a slender bottom and a wide top.
Wholesale Nursery suggests this bush to customers for its long growing season and vibrant colors. It bears early-season snowy white blossoms that welcome the spring. The blossoms are tiny, five-petalled, and cup-shaped; they form significant, impressive clusters. Summer brings vibrant green leaves and then shifts its palette to deep berries in the fall.
The black chokeberry shrub has very few care requirements. It needs adding fertilizer only twice yearly and about 1" of water per week. If desired, you can prune it to maintain a lovely shape.
The Black Chokeberry Shrub Serves an Important Role in the Ecosystem
Do you love watching nature or birdwatching? Aronia Melanocarpa would be a great addition to your garden.
Backyard birdwatchers love this bush, as the local birds find it irresistible. Of course, they enjoy feasting on the berries when they ripen. However, ground-dwelling bird species also build nests in the low, dense foliage. The camouflage is the perfect place for them to build nests, lay eggs, and raise their young.
Besides birds, bees and butterflies will enjoy the nectar and happily pollinate in the spring.
