Daffodil
Narcissus Jonquilla is one of the earliest signs of spring. When the sunny yellow flowers make their grand seasonal entrance, it is a beautiful reminder that winter is over and the warmer days are just ahead. They don't mind the still-cool early spring temperatures and will appear reliably yearly. This flower will thrive in the full sun in USDA plant hardiness zones 3 to 8.
Daffodils are somewhat small flowers with a distinctive trumpet shape. The petals are a deeper golden yellow with some pale yellow or creamy white segments. They achieve a maximum height of 12" to 18" tall, the ideal height for the middle row of a springtime garden border.
The Narcissus daffodil family features fifty species and over 25,000 hybrids. Indeed, it is a large family with many variances. But one thing stays the same--they appear in the still-cold temperatures of early spring.
Caring for Daffodils
Daffodils grow from a bulb, which most gardeners plant in the last days of summer or in early autumn. Despite being cold-tolerant, the bulbs must have a full-sun location in the spring to awaken them and announce that it is time to let the flowers emerge.
It's easy to plant bulbs. They need loose or de-compacted soil, fertilizer or organic compost, and a sunshine-filled spot. Dig the hole 2" longer than the bulbs' length, and place the bulb in with the root side down and the pointed top up. Gently replace the soil and give them a deep watering.
These reliable bloomers don't need much maintenance. Wholesale Nursery recommends these flowers for either beginning or experienced gardeners. Everyone can have a successful experience with these good-natured plants.
If you plan to use your daffodils or Golden Poppy Plant to create a stunning garden border, put them behind shorter early spring bloomers in the middle row.
