Tulip Poplar Seedlings
Liriodendron Tulipifera is a flowering deciduous tree, and some consider it one of the loveliest trees in the continental United States. It prefers to have a full-sun location in USDA plant hardiness zones 4 through 9.
Tulip poplar seedlings develop into a tree named for their most distinct feature--their colorful, warm cream or yellow flowers with green centers. These flowers make you think of a favorite cheery springtime flower--the tulip! They are about 2" to 3" tall and form a multi-petalled cup shape like the bulb by the same name.
The flowers bloom in the late spring, usually in May and June. The large blossoms attract myriad pollinators, including bumblebees, hummingbirds, butterflies, moths, and dragonflies.
Tulip Poplar Seedlings Are Good-Natured and Undemanding
The good-natured tulip poplar tree is deer-resistant, disease-resistant, and drought-tolerant.
The one requirement you must consider while planting your tulip poplar seedlings is space--they will grow to an enormous size as they mature.
Amending the soil with fertile organic materials, shredded leaf litter, compost, hardwood mulch, or peat moss are all excellent options. Finally, those in the colder growing zones with icy winters should put down an insulating layer of mulch to protect the trees' roots from the ravages of winter.
Those few considerations will help you grow a healthy mature tree.
Liriodendron Tulipifera Is a Tall and Stunning Tree
Your tulip tree seedlings could reach as high as 120' at maturity. However, most average a more modest 90' height. Its trunk will grow straight and tall and may become 6' around. The tender green bark of your tulip tree seedlings will become a rich, warm, and red-toned brown as it grows.
The leaves on the canopy will become bright green, large, and showy, providing much relief from the sun's heat.
