Spring Planting Tips for Every Flower Garden
Spring Planting Tips for Eager Beaver Gardeners
Any genuinely effective spring gardening plan begins with the soil. To properly prepare the soil, invest in fertilizer that matches the particular composition of garden soil. Add compost before planting. Turn soil that has become compacted. Then, add compost and fold into the soil with a gardening fork. The gardening fork helps keep the soil loose and, at the same time, aerates it. Prepare the soil in early spring as soon as possible. That will give the soil time to rest before adding fertilizer. Figure on at least four weeks to turn, aerate and fertilize garden soil before planting begins. That is also an excellent time to work out any problems with an irrigation system or make sure an irrigation plan is workable in time for planting.
Spring Planting Tips for Flower Gardens
Find quality plants that have good, strong roots. Inspect the roots, leaves, and stems for possible damage. For bulbs and seeds, check labels to ensure the age of these. Choose annuals or perennials or a combination for a lush garden of floral delight. The first six weeks of spring planting of flowers, shrubs, and trees require the most attention.
If you started plants indoors, take roots and soil from these and plant them outdoors in the same type of soil to avoid plants going into shock. Observe specific growing zone instructions on best planting times for each zone. For plants grown from seed, plant after the last frost. Water when soil is dry to the touch and fertilize twice during the growing season to keep plants healthy and vibrant.
