Sycamore Fascines
What a fantastic nursery, full of knowledge about native plants
Sycamore Fascines are also known as Platanus Occidentalis. Hardy in planting zones 4-9. The growth rate at maturity can reach 75-100 feet tall and 75-100 feet wide. It will have a yellow (male) and red (female) bloom in April, which will be insignificant. It will have a showy fruit and other winter interest. Makes a great shade tree and can help cut cooling costs if strategically planted to block the afternoon sun. Grow in drained, shady soil. This high-maintenance tree will tolerate deer and air pollution, making it a good selection as a street tree. Fruiting balls will replace the blooms and melt away as fall develops and will disperse the seeds inside, frequently in downy tufts, and float away with the wind.
Using a lawn tree can be high maintenance, with leaves, bark, and balls to clean up. Native Americans knew this. For centuries, they used these trees' trunks to construct large canoes. Even in the contemporary world, this particular species still occupies a place of importance. Many flooring, cabinets, furniture, music boxes, barrels, veneer, and different violin parts are direct products of sycamore trees.
It does best in moist, fertile, deep soils but is adaptable to various soils, including wet, dry, poor, compacted, and soils of various pHs.
One way you can always keep the beautiful memory of this unique tree is by planting one in your home. Guaranteed, you will not stop feeding your eyes on its round, crowned structure. It grows fast. Before a year runs out, a sycamore tree could be as high as 6 feet. Accompanying this massive height is its green and significant features. Few other considerable shade trees can compete with a sycamore tree. Once you have succeeded in planting one, the job is done. The tree has what it takes to survive harsh conditions. It is rugged and tolerant of varying growing and soil conditions. Even in times of drought, it still thrives.
