New York Fern
Thelypteris Noveboracensis, the New York Fern is a softly-shaded green perennial fern that is short in size but big in its colorful impact on your garden. They love a lovely, shady setting near trees or shrubs and will give you the best results in USDA plant hardiness zones 3 through 8.
New York fern is native to the eastern United States. As the name might suggest, it's mainly an indigenous plant of New York State, where it thrives in the fertile woods of the Adirondack Mountains region.
This plant makes a beautiful ground cover. It has a habit of multiplying quickly, forming colonies that will improve the soil by decompacting the earth as it spreads. Consequently, it will also help to avoid the ravages of erosion, as the decompacted soil will better absorb water and fertility.
New York fern is a petite species, typically reaching an average of two feet tall
It has soft green, lance-shaped fronds with a pronounced end. The fronds have pairs of leaflets that give them a lovely, soft texture.
Caring for the New York Fern
New York Fern is a cold-tolerant, frost-tolerant, pest-resistant, and disease-resistant species. All you will do is plant it in a semi-shady location in moist and fertile soil. Keep an eye on humidity--if you hit a dry spell, give it some water.
Caring for Thelypteris Noveboracensis is almost an effortless undertaking.
