Almond Tree

Prunus Dulcis 'Nonpareil' is an excellent tree for anyone who wants a beautiful, small tree that will also produce a reliable, more sustainable food source in USDA plant hardiness zones 7 through 9. They require a full sun location to produce an abundant harvest.

The almond tree is a beautiful, well-shaped, smaller nut tree. It will reach a mature height of 15' to 20' and have a loosely rounded, somewhat open crown that will spread about 10' to 15' across. It produces multi-petalled, beautiful creamy white to blush pink blossoms in the spring.

As spring turns into summertime, the leaves emerge--compact, oval, and green with visible veins. Of course, the almond nuts are the real treat--you will get your first harvest in an incredibly short amount of time, usually within the first three or four years. Almond trees grow fast during non-bearing years, adding about 18" of growth per season.

The nuts have an elongated shape with a delicious edible kernel- a bit nutty and a bit sweet.

How to Care for a Non-Pareil Almond Tree

Like many fruit trees, the almond tree needs a little care; however, it is not overly demanding.

Almond trees need about two inches of water during their productive season--from spring until the late summer. This moisture is necessary to nourish the prolific blossoms that bear the nuts. Many Wholesale Nursery customers use a soaker hose a few days weekly to meet this requirement conveniently.

They need nitrogen-rich fertilizer in the early spring (just as the buds begin to form) and in the early fall. Also, note that although these trees love heavy watering, they don't want their roots to stay wet, so quick-draining soil is necessary.
