Mood Moss - 5 Square Feet
Mood Moss
Dicranum Scoparium makes a dramatic, velvety, unapologetically green ground cover that will brighten your landscape. This moss species will thrive in USDA plant hardiness zones 4 to 10. It prefers a mix of sunshine and shade but is agreeable and will adapt to fuller shade.
Mood moss is lovely, hardy, and drought-resistant than most other mosses. It is a forest native species that can overcome some extremely harsh growing environments with little care. You might see mood moss growing out of limestone in the mountains, in the rocky soil of a canyon bottom, or covering old driveways.
This plush, rich ground cover will spread quickly via its root system, called rhizomes. They don't need soil; they take their water and nutrition from the air. Given a short time, mood moss will continue to grow stronger and reproduce, covering large swatches of your shade gardens.
Mood Moss Adds an Otherworldly Look to Shady Areas
Dicranum Scoparium has ethereal, small leaves shaped like little arrowheads. It stays low to the ground, reaching a total height of only three or four inches. This fantastic moss prefers damp to wet and shady growing conditions.
However, it is also interestingly drought-tolerant. It will lose a little bit of its emerald green color during a dry spell, turning to a pale hue; however, it will revert to its glorious rich green with replenished moisture.
