Sweet William Dianthus, Dianthus Barbatus is a Cluster Flowering Perennial
It is typical dianthus; however, it exhibits a classic Victorian cottage-style cluster of flowers that are in pink and white. They require part shade and lots of water for optimal growth. Sweet William grows well when planted in zones three through nine. It is native to Europe but commonly grown in the United States. It is a gorgeous biennial plant that can be expected to grow to about 7-18 inches tall at maturity. This plant can be expected to grow for two years, only blooming in the second year. It is also an excellent plant to add to containers for porches and patios and grows in partial sunlight and fully shaded areas. It can thrive well when planted in all different types of soil conditions. This plant grows to be around twelve inches tall and approximately twenty-four inches wide.
Sweet William, Dianthus Barbatus Look Great in Containers and Pots and even on a Windowsill to Add color
The color of the flower can depend on the variety. The colors are typically white, red, pink, purple, or bi-colored. These also look great in containers and pots since they are compact. Often people will even plant these on a windowsill to add some splash of color. The soil that these are planted in should plant in loose, fertile soil. It should also be able to drain well. Once these gorgeous plants are established, they do not need much maintenance. During dry periods, they should get watered at least once a week. These should also be kept weeded. Put two to three inches of mulch around the plant if you don't want to weed them. It will even give it a nice and tidy appearance.
